CLAN is a Peruvian streetwear brand and one of the most respected in Latin America, and its line of rap tributes leans toward the least commercial side of the genre. Lamont Coleman, Big L, came out of 139th and Lenox in Harlem and released just one album in his lifetime, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous, in 1995. He was shot dead in his own neighborhood in 1999, at 24, and since then his name has come up in every conversation about the best lyricists New York has ever had.
