AREA ZERO ROTS SIZE 9 FOOTBALL

Size 9 football, the official adult size: about 28 centimeters long, 71 centimeters in circumference around the long axis and 53 around the short one, weighing around 420 grams. Grip laces on one side and an assorted color.

The oval shape is a direct inheritance from rugby, which American football split from in the late 19th century. The laces aren't decorative: they're where your fingers rest and what lets you put the spin on the ball around its axis that stabilizes a long pass. Without that spin, an oval ball becomes unpredictable in the air.

Size 9 is the adult size and the one used from high school upward in the United States. There's a mini version in size 1, about 16 centimeters, for play in tight spaces.
